Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa, Arizona Self-Defense Classes

Over the past 40 years, self-defense clinics for adults have been an important staple of communicating with the public and women's groups, that a person can potentially defend themselves in many situations if they know all of the tools and have considerable training. It was learned a long time ago in karate-do that one can develop good habits for self-defense through muscle memory. In other words, one must learn the proper techniques and practice them often, if they have any hope of being successful in self-defense.  Muscle memory is very important in self-defense simply because one must be able to react to attacks without thinking. This is what muscle memory is about.

Karate is considered the ultimate method for developing good self-defense habits, and this martial art goes beyond self-defense. When taught properly with traditions, karate training will also provide a path for self-awareness, self-confidence, self-esteem and life-long health.

 We are located at 60 W. Baseline Road, Mesa, AZ [Arizona School of Traditional Karate (Seiyo Hombu)] (MAP).

Your Instructor: A former instructor of martial arts at 4 major universities and Kyoju (professor) of Martial Arts at the University of Wyoming. He has certifications in several martial arts and >4 decades of teaching experience. His classes & clinics taught at various universities, martial arts schools, church groups & businesses have been very popular. These have included Self-Defense for the Layman, Self-Defense for Women, Self-Defense for Martial Artists, Self-Defense for Military & Law Enforcement & other clinics & classes.

Anyone concerned with personal self-defense should be attending classes at the Arizona School of Traditional Karate in Mesa.. Our classes teach the basics self-defense along with several straight forward and practical self-defense techniques as well as ancient and modern weapons.

At our self-defense clinics, attendees learn
to use elbows, knees, firsts, palms, feet &
weapons (car-keys, cell phones, pens, etc)
& learn to manipulate their attacker's
weight against them.
About Self-Defense: Imagine, you are walking to your car in a parking lot. You see someone parked adjacent to your car. Alarms sound in your head that this could be dangerous. As you get closer, someone steps out of the car and moves toward you. How will you defend yourself if they grab your wrist or wrists? How do you defend it they try to hold you in a bear hug and carry you to their car? What if they try to choke you? You should be armed - in fact we are all armed! God gave us elbows, knees, fists, feet, and mankind made those car keys you are holding in your hand. You are heavily armed, you just need to learn to use those weapons.


  1. There are a lot self-defense classes available, but you should choose which one you think you can stick with. Make it a point to learn a fun activity and do everything to excel on it. It is important that we learn even the basic self-defense techniques and have the right mindset to execute it properly. Instead of doing nothing, learning new skill, boosting your confidence and being able to protect yourself from possible harm or threat, is a good alternative to keep yourself preoccupied.
